The gray man hits Netflix next week, and in it, two of Hollywood’s biggest stars will go head-to-head. Ryan Gosling will play the title character, a CIA mercenary who goes on the run after discovering the organization’s secrets, and Chris Evans will play his deranged former colleague who leads the mission to capture him.
Early clips and trailers have already featured some of the explosive fight scenes the two share. With a week to go until the movie hits the streaming giant, viewers have plenty of other action movies they can check out if they want to see two A-list stars do battle.

The most obvious film that comes to mind when talking about top actors fighting each other is of course Woo and Travolta’s reunion a year later, the aptly titled film Front/Off. It stars Travolta as an FBI agent and Cage as a cruel criminal he tries to bring down, with circumstances causing the pair to swap faces through an experimental procedure.
Its premise makes it one of the most interesting action movies ever, especially for the way it forces Travolta and Cage to fascinatingly portray the two main characters.
6 Uma Thurman vs. Lucy Liu – Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003)
Even among his violent filmography, the Kill Bill The films are still some of Quentin Tarantino’s bloodiest and most brutal works. Much of this is due to the epic fight scenes throughout the saga, with the highlight being Thurman and Liu fighting as The Bride and O-Ren Ishii respectively.
The two, both among Tarantino’s toughest female characters, close out the first part of the revenge story with a spectacular sword fight that ends in shock.
5 Brad Pitt vs. Angelina Jolie – Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005)
When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie clashed in Mr. and Mrs. Smith as a married couple of rival assassins tasked with killing each other, it not only ignited the box office with nearly $500 million worldwide, it also ignited one of Hollywood’s most famous super couples of all time, Brangelina.
The film was the genesis of Pitt and Jolie’s relationship which would stretch until their divorce in 2016. Both have recently starred in major action films and will do so again in the near future, but this film will always occupy an iconic place in their filmography.
4 Vin Diesel vs. Dwayne Johnson – Fast Five (2011)
Fast Five is consistently rated one of the best Fast & Furious movies by fans and it really isn’t hard to see why. Not only does it bring together all the characters from the first four films in the series that are randomly linked, but it also introduces Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs to the franchise.
In his first appearance, DSS Agent Hobbs is on the trail of Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and his crew, leading them to fight in one of the most exciting fights in the saga.
3 Ben Affleck vs. Henry Cavill – Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
More than just two A-list stars head-to-head, when Cavill and Affleck went head-to-head, it also meant two of comics’ most iconic characters did it. Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice features the two comic book giants manipulated into combat with each other by Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor.
Zack Snyder’s sequel to Steel man introduced both Batman and Wonder Woman to the DCEU, attracting large enough audiences to become Snyder’s highest-grossing film.
2 Chris Evans vs. Robert Downey Jr. – Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Superman and Batman wouldn’t be the only superheroes to fall that year, as months later the Avengers were fractured when Evans’ Captain America and Downey Jr.’s Iron Man came to blows. Captain America: Civil War.
The massively popular heroes are said to be fighting over the issue of government control of superheroes, joined by many of their fellow Avengers and the A-list stars who play them. Make no mistake though, Evans and Downey Jr. were the star match in this superhero blockbuster.
1 Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum vs. Daniel Radcliffe – The Lost City (2022)
The action rom-com genre has come back strong in 2022, thanks to The lost citywho sees Bullock as a brilliant but cynical writer and Tatum as his gorgeous but silly book cover model who slowly begins to develop feelings for each other as he runs away from the deranged Radcliffe billionaire who believes Bullock knows the location of an ancient city.
The film was a big hit upon release, with many viewers citing it as one of the best rom-com action movies, thanks to the main cast’s chemistry and phenomenal acting.
