Aamir Khan explains why action movies aren’t as successful anymore – Bollywood News

Action has been one of the most popular and successful genres in Bollywood for a long time, but in recent years, most Hindi action movies have failed to impress audiences. Recent movies like ‘Heropanti 2’, ‘Dhaakad’ and ‘Rashtra Kawach Om’ are some examples of outlandish action movies that have been effectively rejected by the audience. Aamir Khan, soon to be seen in ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, recently said that action in movies only works when there’s a good story to complement it.

In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Aamir shared the example of his iconic film “Ghajini” and said, “I think audiences are happy to watch any type of film. Whatever the genre, there has to be an emotional connection. As an audience, I wouldn’t be interested if only the action happened. Look at Ghajini, it’s an action movie. But, why does the action occur? It’s a beautiful love story between Sanjay and Kalpana. And when Kalpana is killed, the action happens. I want to see that.”

The actor concluded, “As an audience, I am devastated that Kalpana was killed off. Ghajini is essentially a love story, but the action is the second layer of it. Kalpana is the heart of Ghajini. The filmmakers of the South are very connected to audiences. Maybe we’ve lost that connection. We need to revisit that. And southern films teach us.”
