And in the spirit of 2021, the actor today announced his brand new project, titled Thank God. This comedic slice of life will also star Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh.
Thank goodness will be going to the floors on January 21st. Ajay is about to make us laugh with thank god like he did with his previous comedy movies. Let’s take a look at Ajay’s latest 10 comedic movies and how they fared at the box office.
1. De De Pyaar De (2019)
De De Pyaar De revolves around the story of a man who falls in love with a woman (Rakul Preet Singh), who is half her age. The chaos begins when he has to make his ex-wife (Tabu) meet his girlfriend. The film hit Rs 143.04 crore worldwide, with a gross of Rs 123.38 crore in India.
2. Total Dhamaal (2019)
Total Dhamaal was a reboot of the 2007 film Dhamaal. It featured an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey, Sanjay Mishra and others. Made with a budget of Rs 100 crore, the film cost over Rs 232 crore worldwide.
3 Golmaal Again (2017)
Golmaal Again was the fourth film in the hit Golmaal franchise. The film was directed by Rohit Shetty and starred Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tushar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu, Shreyas Talpade, Parineeti Chopra, Tabu, Johnny Lever, Prakash Raj and Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead roles. He pocketed Rs 311 crore worldwide.
4. Action Jackson (2014)
Action Jackson featured Ajay Devgn in a dual role, alongside Sonakshi Sinha, Yami Gautam and Manasvi Mamgai. The film was directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Gordhan P Tanwani and Sunil Lulla. The film did not perform well at the box office and just made Rs 9.3 crore.
5. Himmatwala (2013)
Himmatwala was set in 1983, it was an official remake of the 1983 film of the same name by K Raghavendra Rao. Directed by Sajid Khan, the film starred Ajay Devgn and Tamannaah in the lead roles. The film was not a box office success. Made with a budget of Rs 68 crore, it only brought in Rs 66 crore.
6. Son of Sardar (2012)
Son of Sardaar revolves around the story of a man who comes to his hometown to sell land. During his visit, he falls in love with a young woman but later discovers that her family wants her dead. Besides Ajay, the film starred Sonakshi Sinha in a lead role. The film performed well at the box office. Made with a budget of Rs 30 crore, the film made Rs 161 crore.
7. Bachchan Bowl (2012)
Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Asin Thotumkal, Prachi Desai, Krushna Abhishek, Neeraj Vora and Archana Puran Singh, Ajay Devgn made the audience laugh in Bol Bachchan. The film, made with a budget of Rs 50 crore, made Rs 235 crore.
8. Rascals (2011)
This dark comedy film was directed by David Dhawan. It starred Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Kangana Ranaut and Lisa Haydon in the lead roles. The film didn’t make much of a box office moolah and only hit Rs 49 crore. It was made with a budget of Rs 45 crore.
9. Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji (2011)
Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, this film starred Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi and Omi Vaidya in the lead roles. The film tells the story of three men who are desperate for love. The film’s box office performance was decent. He made over Rs 40 crore against the budget of Rs 28.5 crore.
10. Golmaal 3 (2010)
This third film in the Golmaal franchise has brought together some of the biggest stars of the Hindi film industry to the big screen. Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu, Shreyas Talpade, Kareena Kapoor, Johnny Lever, Ratna Pathak Shah and Mithun Chakraborty starred in the film. It grossed Rs 169 crore at the box office and was made on a budget of Rs 35 crore.
