Popular Bollywood director David Dhawan is now a year older. The director has earned a reputation for making several comedic films over the years which are popular with audiences. He also worked with his son actor Varun Dhawan in the remake of his film Coolie Number 1. On the occasion of the director’s 71st birthday, a look back at 5 of his best comic works.

Although Varun Dhawan’s Coolie Number 1 failed to live up to viewers’ expectations, David Dhawan’s 1995 film Coolie Number 1 starring the pair of Govinda and Karishma Kapoor was a hit in theaters. The film was a box office hit with David Dhawan directing and Govinda’s perfect timing.


Another David Dhawan comedy cult classic is the movie Judwa. Actor Salman Khan played a dual role in this highly acclaimed film by audiences and critics alike. David Dhawan’s Judwa became a family hit around this time.

The classic duo of Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda made this comedic adventure of David Dhawan, Bade Miyan Chote Miya a hit. The story of two policemen who are accused of crimes, committed by their doppelgangers, was a hit movie and is still watched by many.

Biwi Number 1

Biwi Number 1 can be considered another blockbuster delivered by David Dhawan. The film had Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Karishma Kapoor and Sushmita Sen in the lead roles. Biwi Number 1 is a remake of Tamil comedy drama Sathi Leelavathi starring Kamal Hassan.

There is hardly anyone who has not watched Mujhse Shaadi Karogi movie. The romantic comedy, directed by David Dhawan, is known for its energetic music and phenomenal acting from Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.
