Disney Gives Fans First Look at New Live-Action Movies on Day 1 of D23 Expo

Disney gave fans their first look at a slew of new live-action movies on the opening day of the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

Remakes of classic Disney movies, including The Little Mermaid and Snow White, as well as The Lion King spin-off Mufasa: The Lion King, premiered at the convention on Friday.

Film stars like Gal Gadot, Rachel Zegler and Halle Bailey took to the stage to present excerpts from their films.

The company’s chief executive, Bob Chapek, kicked off the three-day event before the panels began.

D23 is expected to feature more announcements from the Marvel and Star Wars universes over the coming weekend.

The sequel to the 2015 animated film Inside Out has also been announced, starring American comedian and actress Amy Poehler, who will reprise her role as Emotion Joy, and appeared at the convention to help introduce her.

Directed by Kelsey Mann and written by Meg LeFauve, Inside Out 2 will be released in the summer of 2024.

Gadot and Zegler appeared side by side to help introduce Snow White, parts of which were filmed in London, which is also slated for 2024.

Bailey, meanwhile, teased a new trailer for The Little Mermaid, which will arrive in May 2023.

The short clip shows her swimming in an underwater kingdom, while Bailey sings the famous song from the movie Part Of Your World.

Friday’s showcase also included looks at the original films Enchanted, Peter Pan And Wendy, Haunted Mansion and the highly anticipated Hocus Pocus 2, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy.

Earlier, famous faces like Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Ellen Pompeo, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff received Disney Legend Awards.

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman’s brother also accepted the posthumous honor on his behalf.
