Liam Neeson says he is ready to retire from action movies

Liam Neeson has said he is finally ready to retire from action movies.

The 68-year-old actor has been widely recognized in recent years as a leading man in blockbuster action films, following the smash hit of the 2008 film Taken.

But Neeson told Entertainment Tonight this week that he’s finally ready to hang his hat when it comes to roles like these, and he cites his age as the main reason.

He told the publication: “I’m 68 and a half. 69 this year. There are a few more I’m going to do this year – I hope Covid allows us to – there are a couple in the pipeline and, so I think it probably will be. Well, unless I’m on a Zimmer frame or something. “

Despite this, the Ballymena-born actor said he still enjoys making action movies a lot.

“I love doing them. I love beating guys half my age,” he said.

“I just finished one in Australia and had a fight scene with a kid – a sweet, sweet actor called Taylor – and halfway through the fight I looked up, I was at breathless and it didn’t cost him a dime, and I said, ‘Taylor, how old are you?’ He said, ’25. ‘

“I said, ‘This is my oldest son’s age!'”

No wonder he feels his age!

Neeson’s next upcoming role is as a retired sailor in Mexican border action thriller The Marksman, which hits US theaters this Friday.
