On Prabhas birthday, 5 action films by actor Baahubali before he became India’s darling

Before Prabhas burst onto screens across India in the show called Baahubali, no one would have believed that a Pan-Indian hero would emerge from the South. Yes, there was Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal and Mammootty but they were happy in their respective comfort zones. Even when they came out, it was for a movie or two, and most of the time they were multi-stars with Hindi movie actors doing a lot of work. Prab completely changed that.

Baahubali was followed by his retinue, then came Saaho. If you put aside the film’s critical response which was lukewarm at best, it drew audiences into theaters and largely into the heart of Hindi. And he has even bigger movies on the horizon – Adipurush from Om Raut where he plays Lord Ram in Saif Ali Khan’s Raavan, High Octane Salaar, a sci-fi movie starring Deepika Padukone and the romantic drama Radhe. Shyam.

Prabhas understood the formula for success long before Baahubali, when most of his films were pure masala potboilers, loaded with action and emotion. While a few turned out to be instant hits in movie theaters, the rest managed to make a name for themselves over time. On his birthday, here we bring you five of his best actors that you can binge-watch.

Mirchi (2013)

The film marked the directorial debut of ace director Koratala Siva. It deals with the rivalry between two groups in which one manifests a thirst for bloodshed while the other wishes to establish peace. The film sees Prabhas as the protagonist named Jai. The action in the film is still in the memory of the audience. You can stream this movie on SriBalajiMovies YouTube channel and the Disney Plus Hotstar app.

Rebel (2012)

This Raghava Lawrence director is an elegant action artist who features Prabhas in a full-fledged role. Although the film was a box office failure due to the lack of a solid storyline, it was the action choreography that caught the storytelling attention and satiated lovers of the genre. Ball (2009)

Billa was a remake of the cult Hindi film Don and is its second Telugu adaptation after Yugandhar (1979). While the title was chosen from the Tamil version of Ajith Kumar-starrer Billa, the director of the film Meher Ramesh had tweaked the original story. The film features Prabhas in the dual role – a gift from the underworld named Billa and a petty thief Ranga. Watch this film on Shalimar Telugu and Hindi Movies YouTube channel. You can also stream this movie on the Sun NXT app.

Bujjigadu (2008)

This film marked director Puri Jagannadh’s first collaboration with Prabhas. He sees Prabhas as a thug with a heart of gold who struggles to meet his love. This film completely changed the expectations of its fans, who have largely watched its films for the action until then. His delivery of dialogue in the film started a trend, courtesy of Puri Jagannadh. Watch it on Amazon Prime Video.

Chatrapathi (2005)

Chatrapathi was the first film to show Prabhas’ mass appeal on the big screens. Marking his first collaboration with director SS Rajamouli, the film became the biggest commercial success of the early days of Prabhas’ career after Varsham. The plot of the film revolves around a refugee evolving into a gangster with good deeds. Peter Hein’s action choreography in the film is pure art. The film is available to stream on Disney Plus Hotstar.

Happy Birthday Prabhas!
