Action films

One of the best action movies of the past five years is among the movies on TV tonight

It features one of Hollywood’s best action stars in the lead role.

Stuck for something to watch this Tuesday night? Don’t worry because JOE has compiled a list of the best movies to air on TV tonight.

Here are our picks for tonight.

Atomic blonde – E4 – 9 p.m.

In our pick for tonight, an undercover MI6 agent (Charlize Theron) is sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of another agent and retrieve a missing list of double agents.

While the plot of Atomic Blonde ends up being a bit of a mess, who needs intrigue when you have a cool historical setting, an awesome 80s soundtrack and James McAvoy providing great support as a suspicious agent.

Stay tuned, in particular, for the film’s seven-minute staircase fight, captured in what appears to be an uninterrupted shot.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – Film Four – 9 p.m.

When a teenage outcast (Asa Butterfield) discovers clues to a mystery stretching through time, he finds Miss Peregrine (Eva Green), a mysterious woman who runs a children’s home with strange abilities.

Directed by Tim Burton, it sounds like his Gothic take on an X-Men story.

Van Helsing – ITV 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.

The famous monster hunter Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) is sent to Transylvania to stop Count Dracula, who uses the research of Dr. Frankenstein and a werewolf for nefarious purposes.

Although it was not well received when it was released in 2004, Van Helsing has become a bit of a cult favorite in some circles.

The Other Guys – Comedy Central – 10 p.m.

Two mismatched New York City detectives (Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferrell) seize the opportunity to step in as the best cops in town, whom they idolize, but things don’t quite go as planned.

My favorite comedy starring Will Ferrell, The Other Guys, features a storyline filled with ace one-liners and some great cameos.

An American Werewolf in London – True Movies – 10:45 p.m.

This horror comedy centers on two American college students on a walking tour of Britain who are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit to exists.

Typically considered the best werewolf movie ever made, An American Werewolf in London is worth watching purely for the incredible transformative effects of makeup artist Rick Baker.

Beast – Film Four – 11:25 p.m.

A troubled woman living in an isolated community finds herself torn between control of her oppressive family and the lure of a secret stranger suspected of a series of brutal murders.

Starring Irish own Jessie Buckley, Beast was a hit with critics – scoring a whopping 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
